Take A Stand For Something

John 19 (nkjv)

Verse 8 – Therefore, when Pilate heard that saying, he was the more afraid,

Verse 9 – and went again into the Praetorium, and said to Jesus,”Where are You from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.

Verse 10 – Then Pilate said to Him, “Are You not speaking to me?  Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, and power to release You?”

Verse 11 – Jesus answered, “You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above.  Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.”

Here we have Jesus and Pilate speaking in the Praetorium while Jesus Christ was on trial for being King of the Jews and God.  There are two points that Jesus makes with His statement.  He tells Pilate in verse 11 that his power is come from above (God).  Pilate is under the misconception that he is in control, but the truth of the matter is that God is in control and has allowed Pilate to be in the position he is in.  No matter how bad the situation may look, and Jesus’ situation looks bad to those around Him as He is standing their facing the death penalty, however God is still in control.  We need to live like we believe that.  Secondly, Jesus tells Pilate that the ones who delivered Him to Pilate have the “greater sin”.  He doesn’t absolve Pilate of sin even though Pilate has said, “I find no fault in this man.”  It is easy for us to give lip service to sinful acts but when will we do something?  If you drive your friends up to a bank so that they can rob the bank it doesn’t matter if you say, “I don’t think we should do this” or “I think what you guys are doing is wrong” or “I have the power to drive you guys to church”.  If you get caught you will all be charged with the same bank robbery.  As Christians we are called not only to speak the truth but to live it.  Jesus did not just say He loved us…He laid down His life for us.  Will you take a stand for Jesus?!?
